Watching Football with kids

"I love those sofa based footy fans with kids." From BBC Sport.

There is a forgotten army of men who continue to play a valued and yet unheralded role in the sporting prowess of this great nation. They sacrifice their time, money and energies in the pursuit of sporting excellence. They are of course, the sofa based footy fans with kids.

Before we had children watching football was straight forward. Open the fridge, find a beer, pop open a bag of Doritos, switch on the telly, sit down and .................. watch.

Aaaah the good old days.

Watching footy now is no longer the straight forward process it used to be.

The Weekend Picture No. 4

Hundreds of rowing boats form the advance guard of the Thames Pageant today
The UK has gone Diamond Jubilee crazy.

Everywhere you turn there is union jack bunting, street parties and people with smiles on their faces. There is also a lot of rain - it's all terribly british.

We were lucky enough to have a prime spot for one of the big events of the Jubilee weekend today - atop a friend's office building overlooking the Thames on the approach to London Bridge - armed with flags, cameras, cake, cagouls and smiles on our faces as we waited for the approach of the 1000+ craft that formed the "largest public event London may ever see" (Sky News this morning) - the Thames pageant.

Competitive Kids

The signs of spring before it all kicked off

I had a great idea this morning. My lovely wife is out all day with W and a mate at Thorpe Park. So, it's my turn to pick up the "signs of spring" from school.

"The weather is beautiful so why not collect them by bike" I thought. "It's a beautiful route across Surrey countryside from school to home - we could stop for a snack on the way home, roll peacefully down the hills, do a bit of nature, laugh and joke all the way home."

Well that's what I thought.

That's without reckoning in the phenomenon that hits kids in our family at the age of around 5-7 - COMPETITIVENESS!

I haven't got the time!

No time to cut the grass
Long time no blog!

I spent most of April (when I was on holiday not coincidentally) in a flurry of early blogging enthusiasm. Blogging briefly became my life as I committed time and great effort to the flickering word.

"This blogging lark is easy" I said to myself.

Then I went back to work and came under assault from the daddy blogger's greatest enemy - TIME - or the lack thereof. Suddenly the blog, along with the rest of the bits of my life which didn't begin with a "w" and end with a "k", slipped down to the bottom of the priority list (just like Wolverhampton Wanderers).
